The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Mr. Anthony Anuforom, at the weekend called for the resuscitation of government’s tripartite committee on flood monitoring, management and control set up under the auspices of the National Intelligence agency last year.
The tripartite committee consists of NIMET, NIHSA and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

He also advocated the signing of a formalised and structured Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NIMET and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) aimed at fashioning out more possible areas of collaborations between both agencies.
The disclosure was made known to the media in a statement signed by NIMET’s Public Relations Department.

He also reiterated the importance of strengthening the ties between both agencies, noting that hydrological services are susceptible to weather and expressed the desire for a more ‘’structured and formalized’’ relationship unlike the previous collaborations between the two agencies, which were always in ad-hoc capacities.
Beckley in a remark, thanked his counterpart for the opportunity granted NIHSA, stressing that the relationship that exists between both agencies was twin-like.

He further stressed the need to deepen the existing synergy, which is geared towards delivering better services to Nigerians in the aspects of weather and hydrology.
