2 men allegedly sell stolen baby for N100,000

UYO—The police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested two persons, Nkereuwem Matthew Ebong and Enobong Sunday Thomas, both of Edienne Ikot Ibio Imo village in Uyo Local Government Area, for allegedly stealing and selling a new born baby delivered by one Nseabasi Matthew Ebong, 22, for N100,000.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Murtala Mani, who paraded the suspects alongside other criminals at the state police command headquarters yesterday, also said police arrested one Mr. Ukana and Isaac Eddie Ndeesor, for kidnapping one Akara Mendie along Urua Akpan Udosen/Ikot Una Village Road in Ukanafun Local Government Area.
He said the suspects drove their victim in a Toyota Camry car to a hideout in Ogoni and kept him until N200,000 ransom was paid.
The commissioner, who was represented by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Delia Nwawe, said three armed robbery kingpins, who had been terrorising some communities in Uyo, the state capital, were also arrested.
He listed the robbery suspects to include Ubon Pius, 20; Isong Bassey Udo, 23; and Isaac Samuel Ukpe, 23.
Nwawe said: “Police is on the heels of every other criminal in Akwa Ibom State as our commissioner is insisting on zero tolerance to armed robbery operations and all other forms of criminality.”
Assorted arms, said to have been recovered from the suspected armed robbery and kidnapping suspects, were displayed by the police.
